What Footprint Shield can't do
We say this plainly because the industry often doesn't. Footprint Shield cannot guarantee that a publisher or search engine will remove information, or that a profile will outrank another result. It helps you organize practical steps: request corrections or updates, improve profiles you control, and track people-search opt-out requests. Results and timing vary, and some requests may be declined. This is not legal advice. For defamation or contract questions, talk to a licensed attorney.

Common questions.
Who is this for?
Job seekers, professionals and small-business owners who have an old story, a bad review or too much personal information showing up under their name.
Will it get an article taken down?
Sometimes a publisher agrees to update a story or remove a name, especially for older articles about people who weren't charged with anything. Many say no. The app gives you well-written requests and tracks replies, but we can't promise an outcome.
Is the Footprint Map a way to look people up?
No. It's a checklist for your own name. It opens each platform's normal search for you to review yourself, and it doesn't collect or store anything about anyone. It's built for checking your own footprint, not for looking up other people.
Where is my data stored?
In your own browser. We don't keep your scan results, letters or notes on a server. Export a backup from the app to move devices.
How does the live scan work?
It searches your name through a search provider and shows page-one results for you to tag. You get one free scan, which shows your top five results and how many others may need a closer look. Pro includes 150 scans a month with up to twenty results per scan. You can also add results by hand. Search results are powered by Brave Search.
What makes a result count as owned?
In Footprint Shield, “owned” means a page or profile you can directly manage, such as your website or a profile you can sign into and edit. It does not mean you own the platform or control everything it displays. Check whether the content is current and helpful as well as whether you control it.
How can I check my digital footprint manually?
Search your full name and common variations. Add a city, employer or username when you need to distinguish yourself from someone else. Review web results, images and public profiles. Record the search engine, date and URL for each finding, then add relevant results to the app by hand. Focus on your own information.
Does my score represent every search engine?
No. Treat your score as a tracking indicator for the results you have reviewed, not a universal measure of your reputation or a prediction of what an employer will think. Live scans use Brave Search. Check Google separately if you want to review what appears there, and record which engine each finding came from.
How do I cancel?
Open the app and choose Manage billing. You can cancel in one click and keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Your scans, results and notes stay saved on your device, and you can download a backup anytime.
Does it work on a new device?
Yes. After you subscribe, the app shows an access code. Paste it on another device to unlock Pro there. Your Pro access and your saved work are separate: unlocking Pro does not automatically transfer the scans, letters or notes stored in your original browser. Export a backup before moving your saved work and follow the app's backup-transfer instructions.
